All I want is a Marchesa

Hello Gorgeousness!
Yes you! :)
Oscars red carpet had some bloody pretty pieces that I couldn't get my eyes off. Anne Hathaway was a sight in red and so were all her 7 change of clothes. I enjoyed the feathers and the reds and corals but I think Marchesa on Hailee Steinfeld stole my breath away. I have reached the conclusion that there is nothing prettier than a Marchesa on a woman :D and their clothes are my latest fixation.
The True Grit star was the true portrayal of what I would dress like if I walked the red carpet, anytime soon. Ha! How I wish :D
The up-do and the thin little hairband, the minimalistic make up, the contrasting clutch and the nude pumps..all to let the gorgeous tulle Marchesa gown take centre stage.

Marchesa's metallics monotone dresses are what I would pick for the red carpet. And personally, not wanting to sound abrasive, I'm not the biggest fan of matching the exact color of your clutch with your outfit. I'm somehow more of a contrast-color or at least some other shade of the same family clutch with the outfit person. So, for this red carpet event(all in my head of course), I will probably make sure that there is a solid(not blending into my outfit) color to the clutch. However, with a bold metallic dress, I will want to wear a somewhat of a subtle pair of shoes. Nude pumps? Or these that I picked :)

The Gold knife pleated and the Silver Silk dress: Marchesa, The Red clutch: Bottega Veneta, the blue envelope clutch: Anya Hindmarch, the nude suede sandals: Jimmy Choo.
The best part of my picks? Match them in any order, horizontally or diagonally. Something I learned from VOGUE. All pictures are courtesy: net-a-porter.com
Like? Dislike? What are your favourite picks?

Tigerlily

Without question my favourite way to spend time and money is eating out. Dinner at a cozy cool restaurant or lunch at a trendy cafe - I'm there.
When it comes to Bath I could easily tell you where to go for what food and on what budget. But when it comes to Edinburgh - my second home - I have not explored as far. However, the place which I always return to is the ultra sophisticated and suave 'Tigerlily'.
Situated on George Street in a traditional townhouse, Tigerlily is not only a restaurant but a hotel and sits upon 'lulu' which is a co owned nightclub.
The decor is boutique impeccable - if getting ever so slightly worn as my sister always likes to point out!
You walk through the doors and are greeted by the first bar and lounge area - there is always a barman there trying to show off by throwing his bottles about - which if you are after dinner then you walk past and head to the reception area where you are greeted and seated. Depending on your party size there is a variety of tables in different parts of the restaurant. Without question my favourite is the round tables which are surrounded by beaded curtains - memories of my 18th birthday are coming back...
Prices are reasonable and there are often offers. The food is good and exactly what you would want to expect.
Swanky, sexy - I love it and I'm sure you can see why!

Salwar-Kameez and the Bling

Hi ladies.
How is the week drudging along? I'm loving my week what with my Annual University Parliamentary Debate having kicked off. Yes, I'm a debater and its probably my most favourite extra-curricular activity ever since school :)
Keeping that aside, meet A.C. She is gorgeous in Salwar-Kameez and she accessorizes it beautifully too. For, Vidhi who requested I do a post on casual college wear, a suggestion is also to add an ounce of spice to your usual jeans, skirts and shorts and wear a salwar kameez with a bright colored dupatta and the right accessories. Try it, its bound to work :)

Her curls add to the whole non-chalant, spunk of the look. The kurta- Fab India, the floral salwar to contrast the plain of the silk kurta- Fab India, the dupatta-thrift(Delhi), golden blingy jutis- random juti store, black metal bangles- street shopping(commercial street), necklace- Forever New.
The best part of the outfit is the black metal chunky necklace and the black metal bangles. Add black kohl to the eyes and you're good to go. Also easy to turn this look into a night look with a heavier kurta and probably a little bit of lip color.
Thanks A.C. You're the best.
XOXO

Outfit Post OD-ing

Hey all!
The NYFW has got me wrapped around its little pinky and I've been spending more time than usual on the internet, looking up collections and Prabal Gurung's fall collection has emerged a clear winner. It is very evident from the collection that he is out there, experimenting with styles and textures and that especially showed in the use of different fabrics and the colors. The ombre pinks with the fierce reds and lets not forget the gorgeous tulle with the feather and sequin work dress which was undeniably, my favourite.

On another note, I decided to try a layering of two of my favourite pieces from my closet and add a gorgeous dash of pearls and pink to it. The chunky string of pearls around the neck and pearl hairband. See how it turned out. The lovely PINK effects: Ay :)

The black top with rosettes: Forever New, The grey tunic: Supre, tights: random pick from Australia, the pink bag: Coach, the shoes: Random jooti store, watch: DKNY
I decided to add a sudden Indian touch to the very preppy outfit by adding these HOT PINK 'jootis' with multi colored thread work to the outfit. Of course the Pink Coach perfectly complemented those.
What do you think? Like/Dislike/Indifference?
Also, a friend informed me that I was Teen Vogue's Best Dressed Reader on 27th January :) Check it out HERE.
I am also available on StylePile now and hopefully I will update it often :) Find me HERE.
Much love fashionistas!

Now You're Talking-I

Hello Peeps!
Whats cooking? I could tell you I'm the happiest person right now as I see weekend inch closer with each moment passing. I could really do with so weekend style chill and the lost hours of beauty sleep. Weekend plans, anybody?I like when there's so much weekend happiness all around. There's a certain characteristic cheer in the air. Its like the evening traffic seems to jostle through even faster, in a hurry to get by the next few office days. Moving on from that, this is my first segment of 'Now You're Talking' and my first style query was from N, who had asked me, "From where do you shop for the formals? (I mean the high waisted straight skirts and trousers, and the shirts and sorts)".
My response to that will have to be this. Being in the legal fraternity, I do not get to experiment a lot with colors in formal wear. (BLACK AND WHITE, YES!) However, having said that..I have on numerous occasions indulged in shopping for formal clothes and according to me and the success rate in finding the perfect piece of garment so far, Mango wins hands down for the 'Business wear' range of clothes. I have successfully bought high waisted cinched skirts from MNG and very trendy formal shirts to go with it. Currently, MNG has some very interesting pieces to offer. I have also on occasions found interesting pieces at United Colors of Benetton. so do not rule that out either. Here are some picks available in MNG stores currently.
The relaxed fit shirt in that gorgeous color

A little bit of spunk: Straight leather skirt

Relaxed straight fit in the cute beige
Having said that, do not forget the option of ASOS, where you can find affordable clothing with the latest international trends. Palazzo pants or wide legged pants are my pick for formal trousers. Cigarette pants are hot, but palazzo pants are really setting the runways on fire. Team up a pair of palazzo pants with a pussy bow blouse or a satin shirt for that perfect combination for office. Some interesting picks from ASOS.
peter pan collars are cute and yet, formal

pleated-fitter trousers, still HOT

And its important to mention that these are also the trends which stood out in the Michael Kors Autumn-Winter 2011 collection, along with sparkly-glam tops to jazz up the outfit. My two favourite picks.
That pale pink on the trousers is just not OTT.
The wide legged trousers with glam bustiers, order of the day.

I hope this successfully answers your query, N and you love this post as much as I did putting it together for you.
Please feel free to mail me or tweet me your queries. Available on facebook, twitter: Shreya_1, mail me at: shreyakalra1@gmail.com Would love to address them!
Much love, fashionistas.

My Selection of the NY Fall 2011 RTW Collections

Jason Wu - love the dotty tights and the netted masks used for styling

Donna Karen - beautiful draping and styled with long gloves and a bit of fur.

'The Row' designed by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen - very crisp and rich colours, Russian edge.

Erin Fetherston - quite summery for a fall collection but love the femininity and tailoring
Alice + Olivia - pretty little dresses, nicely styled with fur stoles, red lipstick makes it look sharp.
