Tank tops and Sundry

This week marked with it an all time low that the world saw what with the earthquake in Japan giving rise to the Tsunami waves and taking a toll over thousands of people and it does not stop there. The Fukushima reactor saw another explosion and the world is going to be reeling under the aftermath for a while now. Its times like these that make me think, maybe just mentioning about it in my blog is not enough. Maybe just retweeting helplines for aid and funds is not enough either. But come to think of it, its a small step towards a bigger goal of ensuring that the entire world is connected in on this. Much akin to how things are when the world sees any one state being targeted by terrorists from another. But then that's just me and my 2 pence to what we can do to get everybody together. Prayers for Japan.
This post goes out for Priya Kapoor who asked me on my facebook page HERE, about ideas on layering of tank tops. It was an interesting query because I personally enjoy layering tank tops just about ANYWAY I like. Besides, who cares about the fashion police, right? :)
Here are some easy-to-replicate looks with layering of tanks.
Look1:
Step 1: Picked a plain grey tank from Mango.
Step 2: Team it up with a pale pink spaghetti with rosettes on the front which pop out from the deep neck of the tank. The pale pink spaghetti: Forever New.
Look 2:
Step 1: Pick a brightly hued tube top to complement the grey of the tank. Yellow tube: Benetton
Step 2: The grey tank goes over the tube for the perfectly layered look.
P.S: This look is a hit for the upcoming SUMMERS.
Look 3:
Step1: The grey tank will now serve as a base and will be layered upon.
Step2: Pick out a brightly colored button down shirt. I picked a bright lavender with white striped shirt from Benetton with puffed sleeves. For a cool, summer effect, do not button the shirt. Perfect with a short skirt or a pair of hot pants.
Step 3: Go a step further with the layering and add a different colored scarf to the look. I picked a blue scarf which I had picked from Pondicherry to complete this look.
Look 4:
Step 1: A monochromed tunic which flares at the bottom from Supre. You would have already seen this look in the outfit post but its a great look for layering a tank and hence it finds its way here :)
Step 2: Added a black tank with rosettes on the front from Forever New to layer the tunic.
For looks 1, 2 and 4 its a good idea to throw on long string of beads or pearls or layer multiple necklaces.
These are some of my favourite ideas although this trend still leaves a lot upto your imagination. My favourite look this season is going to be Look 3. Which ones are your favourite?
I hope you enjoyed this segment of Now You're Talking as much as I did, putting it together for you guys. Till next time, keep the queries rolling in. On the facebook page, twitter or even mail.

Now You're Talking-I

Hello Peeps!
Whats cooking? I could tell you I'm the happiest person right now as I see weekend inch closer with each moment passing. I could really do with so weekend style chill and the lost hours of beauty sleep. Weekend plans, anybody?I like when there's so much weekend happiness all around. There's a certain characteristic cheer in the air. Its like the evening traffic seems to jostle through even faster, in a hurry to get by the next few office days. Moving on from that, this is my first segment of 'Now You're Talking' and my first style query was from N, who had asked me, "From where do you shop for the formals? (I mean the high waisted straight skirts and trousers, and the shirts and sorts)".
My response to that will have to be this. Being in the legal fraternity, I do not get to experiment a lot with colors in formal wear. (BLACK AND WHITE, YES!) However, having said that..I have on numerous occasions indulged in shopping for formal clothes and according to me and the success rate in finding the perfect piece of garment so far, Mango wins hands down for the 'Business wear' range of clothes. I have successfully bought high waisted cinched skirts from MNG and very trendy formal shirts to go with it. Currently, MNG has some very interesting pieces to offer. I have also on occasions found interesting pieces at United Colors of Benetton. so do not rule that out either. Here are some picks available in MNG stores currently.
The relaxed fit shirt in that gorgeous color

A little bit of spunk: Straight leather skirt

Relaxed straight fit in the cute beige
Having said that, do not forget the option of ASOS, where you can find affordable clothing with the latest international trends. Palazzo pants or wide legged pants are my pick for formal trousers. Cigarette pants are hot, but palazzo pants are really setting the runways on fire. Team up a pair of palazzo pants with a pussy bow blouse or a satin shirt for that perfect combination for office. Some interesting picks from ASOS.
peter pan collars are cute and yet, formal

pleated-fitter trousers, still HOT

And its important to mention that these are also the trends which stood out in the Michael Kors Autumn-Winter 2011 collection, along with sparkly-glam tops to jazz up the outfit. My two favourite picks.
That pale pink on the trousers is just not OTT.
The wide legged trousers with glam bustiers, order of the day.

I hope this successfully answers your query, N and you love this post as much as I did putting it together for you.
Please feel free to mail me or tweet me your queries. Available on facebook, twitter: Shreya_1, mail me at: shreyakalra1@gmail.com Would love to address them!
Much love, fashionistas.

Now You're Talking

Hello lovelies,
Its weekend and A Lot Like Fashion is having a field day catching up on E-goss and reading, in general. At this point of time, I should probably let you know that I'm a big fan of the lazy-dazy Sundays. My agenda usually includes curling up in bed with my laptop, catching up on E-goss, reading books, watching movies with endless cups of coffee. Me thinks its the feeling of having so much leisure time on your hands on a Sunday that makes it so special. Ok, for those of you waiting for me to get to the sensible part of the post, I think its time I take the new big leap as a fashion blogger. I present to you my new weekly column, 'Now You're Talking'. Quite fairly to its name, its where, you my dear readers talk. Now I don't claim to be able to wax eloquent about every do and don't of fashion, under the sun like my personal favourites Tim Gunn and Stacey London. What I however, can do is put together outfits, give you tips on where-to-find those much coveted clothes/shoes/accessories, answer queries on my personal fashion etc. So fire away folks, any query you might have about fashion, my personal style, a style you might want to try, what your options could be, where to find etc. So what sets Now You're Talking apart?
I will accompany the post on each one of your queries, with relevant images. The images could be from my personal possession, celebrity pointers etc. This is in order to answer your query in as much detail as possible. This does not end here. If you indeed, do take my advice and use the style reply for yourself, you can mail me back images of how it turned out or in case you found something you were looking for, mail me images of that and I shall feature it. See, this makes it so much more transparent and I get better reader satisfaction. Ok, now I just sound like a cheap advert :/
Back to the point, you can address your queries to shreyakalra1@gmail.com
The week begins tomorrow and on any one the days of the week will I post Now You're Talking, depending on when your queries trickle in.
Till then, enjoy this shot of Tim Gunn(he is the REAL style guru and there's no other quite like him) with Taylor Momsen after he lambasted her for her BB-addiction habits! She doesn't look too happy does she?

Project Runway, anybody?
Stacey London lives with her 300 pairs of shoes and a cat. The best part about the 'What Not To Wear' diva? Her spontaneity :) It also helps that shes gorgeous, of course!
