Currently I'm reading this fascinating book about the writer Truman Capote and the story of the black and white masked 'Party Of The Century' which he hosted at the New York Plaza in 1966.
I'm not normally one to read many books and always find it so hard to get into them but this one has me grasped.
I discovered this story of Capote's while researching masked balls and voila!
He invited 500 friends and these people weren't just anyone - they were the elite socialites, movie stars, millionaires and billionaires. Guests included Frank Sinatra, Gloria Vanderbilt, the Kennedys and Mia Farrow...to name a few of the who's who of jet setting society.
The ball was held in celebration to the success of his story 'Cold Blood'. He also wrote world renowned stories such as 'Breakfast at Tiffanys'.
In the book it explains Capotes life and the lead up to the ball - currently I'm on the chapter which is about his 'Swans' which is a group of the most beautiful, slender socialites which were in his inner most social circle in New York. I can't wait to get to the bit about the ball!
